One frocked up election

Or, perhaps, the most frocked up.

Up until two years ago I spent 18 years in California. Before we ever got to vote the primaries would already be decided and we would be presented with tweedledee and tweedledum. It is a farce, everyone knows it and very few care. I would end up simply not voting.

Since then I’ve moved to Missouri which has comparatively  early primaries, I thought this election might be different, a real choice for a change. I liked the Democrats’ Lessig and OMalley and I found the Republicans’ Kasich was at least saying some of the right stuff.

Of course, the media excluded Lessig from consideration and OMalley gained no traction in the whitest of white early states. Meanwhile Kasich is still in the race but has been sidelined by those very same states. So even though we are still 3 weeks away from voting, every candidate that I could consider backing has already been excluded from the race.

But wait, the reader states, there are still choices, we have Clinton, Sanders, Cruz, Rubio, and Trump; there are still choices to be made. Let’s take a look at these choices, for entertainment’s sake we will look at them in reverse alphabetical order.

Donald Trump: A nationalistic populist. With no political history we can only guess how he would govern. Over the years he was swayed back and forth on every issue, all we know for sure is that he is (or at least acts like) a racist intent on stoking racial violence.

Bernie Sanders: A geriatric democratic socialist with a lifetime in politics. He says all of the right things about campaign finance reform, healthcare, and banking reform but does not appear to have put much thought into energy policy, foreign affairs, or many other important topics that the next president will have to deal with. He is already 74 years old and probably not very agile at taking in new information and processing it.

Marco Rubio: A first term Senator without a single accomplishment on which to stake a claim. His rhetoric makes him the most anti-libertarian candidate in the field, he is a classic neo-con.

Ted Cruz: A first term Senator known more for what he opposes than for what he believes. He is the obligatory paleo-conservative in the race. This is the same role played by Huckabee and Santorum in the past. If it wasn’t for our broken campaign system he would already be back dragging the Senate down.

Hillary Clinton: The most Nixonian candidate since Nixon, she touts Kissinger as someone to look up to. She also is a classic neo-con and has vowed to get us into more wars while taking away more rights. She has not spent a single day of her adult life scandal free but she blames everyone else and never once takes a look in the mirror. She, like Rubio, would further extend the Bush/Obama doctrine of executive overreach and denial of habeas corpus.

And that’s it, those are our choices. WTF? This is the best we can do? A nation of 320 million people and this is it? There is an old saw that we get the politicians that we deserve, if there is any truth to this, we truly are a debased and facile nation.

It appears that I will be sitting another election out.

It’s Not You, Hillary. It’s Bill.

For women and women’s power, Hillary being the front runner in the Democratic primaries is a momentous occasion. Hillary could be the first female president in our nation’s 240 year history. No one can doubt the momentous nature of the moment.

But just as Hillary’s candidacy is momentous for women, it is equally disastrous for men. Wait. Hear me out. This isn’t about Hillary, it is about Bill. We could get our very first First Gentleman in our nation’s history, a very big moment indeed for men. But we don’t get to choose our First Gentleman, we are saddled with whomever the presidential aspirant drags along. And in this case, it is Bill; to state that he is not representative of the best that men offer is a gross understatement. As a man, it pains me that Bill may become the representative of men of our generation in future history texts.

I can hear the reader stating that this is preposterous, but allow me to demonstrate with a small thought experiment and you will surely agree with me.

Imagine that the roles were reversed. If we had a man running for president and his wife was as deplorable as Bill. Many many affairs, numerous rape accusations, a documented one-sided affair with a person of vastly inferior standing. All documented and played out in public for the world to see. What would be our views of this woman? Would she serve as a role model for young women? Is it different when it is the First Gentleman instead of the First Lady?

After 240 years men may be about to achieve, for the very first time, a First Gentleman, surely we can do better than Bill. If we can’t do better than Bill at present, then it would be far better to wait. Far better to wait, to postpone this historic moment until a better candidate for the first First Gentleman comes along. After all, we only get the opportunity for the first First Gentleman once, do we want to blow this historic opportunity on Bill Clinton (pun unintended and kind of gross)?

How Obama Led Me to Hate the Left

(really it is the so-called left…the US doesn’t have a left, just a bunch of anti republican democrats who pretend and pay lip service to being left)

During the Bush years, the American left was alive and well, protesting US imperialism, contesting US global hegemony, and generally voicing dissent against policies that discriminate and punish the down trodden.  Good leftists, one and all.  Code Pink, Move On, etc…

Then with much flair and pageantry Obama came to power.  We held our collective breath, anticipating with hope the changes that were coming.  Instead Obama surrounded himself with Wallstreet bankers, gave a bazillion in bailouts to corporate crooks, and expanded our foreign wars into far off lands.  Holy cow!  In most ways Obama is indistinguishable from Bush…the color of his skin is different, but policy wise…not much difference.  His signature achievement is healthcare, but even that is a boondoggle.  He took single payer off the table before he even started negotiating, and hoped for change was lost in the shuffle…most of it hasn’t taken effect, and the way things are going now…never will.  Bush’s expansion of Medicare was more meaningful that any alleged improvement under Obama.

So it is clear, the Obama presidency is a failure, he is a useful idiot for the moneyed class.  So obviously, the left should be up in arms, only they aren’t.  Nobody raised a whimper when he extended the Bush tax cuts, now known as the Bush/Obama tax cuts.  No one raised a cry when he expands war to a new muslim nation on a monthly basis.  No hue is heard when Obama puts out hit squads for American citizens who have never been charged let alone convicted of any crime.  Guantanamo is still open for business, the rich continue to get richer, and poverty increases unabated.  All of this is expected from any corporate shill that gets elected president, so why should it make me hate the left?

No one complains, the so called left is compliant, complacent, and apologetic.  They are still whining about the Bush tax cuts long after they have segued into the Obama tax cuts.  The left is only opposed to wars started by people with an R after their name.

Let’s be clear, Bush is gone…he is a historical footnote.  Let’s quit blaming him.  The prisoners in Guantanamo are there by executive order, they could be removed by executive order, if the president had the will.   Where is code pink?  Why aren’t they throwing paint on this administration?  I guess war is OK as long as it is a democratic war.  Imperialism is evidently OK as long as it is democratic imperialism.

And that is why I hate the American left, because they are not left of center.  They are simple useful shills for the democratic party…if democrats opened concentration camps,  so-called left would help fill them. Disgusting, repugnant, and makes me ill.

Anybody but Obama 2012!

Schwarzenegger Should Resign…Now!

Arnie ran for election on his supposed ability to fix California’s budget mess.  Now, six years later and we are worse off than ever.  Today’s problems rest solely at the feet of the Governater.  Anti-tax but not anti-spending, revenue goes down as expenditures go up.

Arnie had six years to come up with solutions, but he failed to negotiate in good faith.  His main solution has been borrowing, when we borrow in good times, what happens when things go sour?  This is what we are finding out now.

Whenever it came time to negotiate, he refused.  He wanted to go over the legislatures head to the people with initiatives.  But he failed to sell them to the populace and they failed…repeatedly.  He had all of our eggs in a single basket and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

His newest scheme is to borrow from future lottery winnings.  You know, those funds that we have set aside for education.  He wants to steal the money from education’s future and give it to the prison industrial complex.

As our state, once the most prosperous in the nation is being forced to its knees by a governer with no sense of urgency.  As our economy crumbles, all he cares about is the wealthy.  Fight against taxes while people are hungry.  Expand prisons while defunding universities.  Expand prison guards while laying off teachers.

If his goal was to take one of the wealthiest places on the planet and turn it into a third world nation then he succeeded.  If this was not his goal, then he should leave Sacramento today.  You’ve hurt us enough…just go.

Edit: So they passed the tax increases…the wooshing sound is more businesses packing up and leaving California.  Everywhere else in the country they are trying to put more money into the hands of consumers, but not here.  Here, just when we are hurting the most…let’s take more of their money.

The tax increases that I am aware of are a penny sales tax, twelve cents gas tax, and two percent income tax…for me this adds up to about an extra $700/year.  Just when I am taking a pay cut to let my employees keep their jobs…

I took a 15k/year hit in the paycheck last year…now the state thanks me with a host of tax increases…gotta love this state…

Let’s cut Bristol Palin some slack…

…she was probably unaware that sex causes pregnancy.

After all she was raised by a neaderthal who thinks creationism is equal to dawinism, who does not believe in global climate change, who believes in abstinance only sex education, who thinks the pledge of allegiance with under god in in was set forth by the founding fathers, who does not seem qualified to be a parent let alone vice president.
